Kevin and I were so, so, super excited about this wedding because I (Katie) have known both Karissa and DJ since they were young wee things, as Karissa is my cousin on my dad's side of the family and DJ is my cousin on my mom's side! My family is the "missing link" between the two sides, as Karissa and DJ are not even remotely related--just so we're clear :)
So, this was a big family wedding with so many people Kevin and I dearly love who made the trek up to Bellingham for the big event. My sister Aubrie was Karissa's maid of honor, my cousin Coral baked hundreds of delicious cupcakes--plus an incredible gluten-free wedding cake--my cousin Brent married them in an ethereal, secluded grove of trees, and my cousin Krystal created the most beautiful, fairy-like scene full of dreamcatchers and paper flowers for our families to celebrate this very special union.
The day included an incredible moment when the clouds literally parted as Karissa's horse-drawn carriage entered the ceremony site, followed later by an epic MOH speech where Aubrie gave DJ bedroom advice (which included a loincloth, replete with feathers). Later, we danced all night on slabs of wood that will eventually be the new roof of a neighbor's house, laughing and connecting with all our loved ones.
Naturally, I've included some images of Kevin and I because it's not often we can shake it on the dance floor at the end of the night. Our little Hazel danced for four hours straight, a smile on her face the whole time.
Congratulations to Karissa and DJ, and many thanks for having us be part of your day. We love you two so much!!!
